Galaxy S25 may not come with One UI 7.1, and that’s fine

Samsung is reportedly testing the Galaxy S25 series with One UI 7.0, not One UI 7.1. Long-time Samsung fans will know that every new Galaxy S flagship launches with a x.1 iteration of the latest version of One UI and has done so since One UI was first introduced back in 2018.

But that could change next year according to X/Twitter tipster chunvn8888, who claims the Galaxy S25 lineup is running One UI 7.0 internally instead of One UI 7.1. Usually, we could have chalked this up to development on Samsung's next flagship lineup being in an early phase, but that likely isn't the case here.

Why the Galaxy S25 may not run One UI 7.1 out of the box

As you may be aware, Samsung is doing things differently with One UI 7.0. While the company will let owners of select devices beta test the new software later this year, it has decided to release the stable version of the Android 15-based One UI update with the Galaxy S25 lineup next year.

That pretty much makes having a x.1 version of One UI 7 debut on the Galaxy S25 series unnecessary. x.1 iterations are fine when a major new One UI version is released for existing devices well before the next Galaxy S flagship lineup is announced.

But One UI 7.0 will have its official release take place alongside the Galaxy S25, S25+, and S25 Ultra, so it makes sense for Samsung to discard its usual method of assigning version numbers to One UI.

So will there be no One UI 7.1 at all? Samsung will probably still release a One UI 7.1 update after the Galaxy S25 series goes on sale and will focus on bringing new Galaxy AI features to eligible devices through that update. Or perhaps One UI 8.0 will replace both One UI 7.1 and 7.1.1, as Google will release Android 16 way ahead of the usual schedule.

All this is new territory for both Samsung and everyone here at SamMobile, so we can't say anything for certain and will have to wait and watch how things pan out.
