One UI 7.0 could let you completely disable thermal throttling

Here's an interesting piece of information for Samsung fans who want to extract the best gaming performance out of their Galaxy smartphones: One UI 7.0 has a hidden option to disable thermal throttling according to an X/Twitter tipster who has shared numerous details about the Android 15-based One UI update.

The option is available inside the developer options menu, which holds advanced settings not intended for the regular user and can be found on all Android devices. For a while, it was also accessible on One UI 6 through a different method, but Samsung removed it later on. With One UI 7.0, it may be making a return.

Following complaints of Samsung aggressively throttling performance on Galaxy devices, the Korean giant introduced an alternate performance management option in the Game Launcher/Game Booster app a couple of years ago. This setting, available through the Labs section of the app, increases the maximum allowed temperature limit, but it doesn't completely disable throttling.

We are assuming Samsung will not officially let customers disable thermal throttling a 100% even on One UI 7.0, especially not on the Galaxy S25, S25+, and S25 Ultra. The Galaxy S25 series will use Qualcomm's new Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, which boasts bonkers CPU and GPU performance, and letting that chip run wild on phones with even with the best vapor cooling systems would be a bad idea.

That might be where the setting in the developer options menu comes in. However, since One UI 7.0 is still in development, there is no guarantee that the option to fully disable thermal throttling will be present in the final version. And while it may be available in the beta version of One UI 7.0, we wouldn't recommend trying it out as uncontrolled temperatures can shorten the lifespan of a smartphone's components.
