One of the biggest problems in switching between different smartphone platforms is the transfer of personal data.

Although Apple and Google have improved data transfer from their own platforms to other platforms, it is still not completely seamless. Google is making things better by bringing support for transferring Live Photos from iPhones to Android devices.

Android Switch will get support for transferring Live Photos from iPhones to Android phones

Google recently launched the Android Switch as a separate, upgradable app for Android smartphones and tablets. It has always been a part of core Android, but it was named Data Transfer Tool and wasn't upgradeable independently. It received improved chats/messages transfer and the ability to use USB and Wi-Fi simultaneously for faster data transfer.

It has also received the ability to import Live Photos from iPhones. Right now, the ability is restricted for Pixel 9 phones. Paul Dunlop, the Product Manager for Onboarding and Switching on Android, confirmed to Mishaal Rahman that the feature will soon be rolling out to other Android smartphones, including the rest of the Pixel lineup.

Galaxy devices use the same Android Switch app for transferring data when upgrading from an iPhone, so it is likely that Live Photos import will be supported in the near future.

Android Switch has also received an improved onboarding process and faster data transfer when using a cable.
