Samsung showcasing a massive 18.1-inch foldable OLED display at CES

While Samsung has cut down sales targets for its foldable smartphones for 2025, it's business as usual at the company's display division. At CES 2025 in Las Vegas, Samsung Display will showcase several advanced display technologies, including the world's largest foldable OLED display – one that's 13.1 inches in size when folded and 18.1 inches when unfolded.Summarize in one-click with Galaxy AI

This is a step up from the 17.3-inch foldable OLED panel Samsung introduced in 2022, though the idea behind the concept hasn't changed. Unfolded, the display can act as a massive tablet or as a monitor if you connect an external keyboard or mouse. When folded, it can turn into a laptop with the top half used as the display and the bottom half as a touchscreen keyboard.

For those wondering, Samsung didn't actually make a commercial product with the 17.3-inch foldable OLED panel from 2022, and it probably isn't going to launch any device with the 18.1-inch panel. Foldable screen laptops are prohibitively expensive, and they don't offer enough use cases to justify paying a premium over regular laptops.

But Samsung Display doesn't just supply displays to other Samsung divisions. It sells them to every manufacturer that wants one, and perhaps laptop makers like ASUS or Lenovo will adopt the 18.1-inch foldable OLED panel for one of their offerings in the coming months.
