Don’t sleep on the Galaxy Watch as an alarm clock

Most smartphone owners likely use their handsets as an alarm clock on most or all days of the week. You might know that smartwatches also have an alarm clock feature, but how many of you tried it?

I have, and I'm not sure I'll be using the smartphone to wake me up every day anymore. I found a few advantages to using my Galaxy Watch 5 as an alarm clock instead of the Galaxy S24+, and I recommend you test it out yourself if you have a Samsung smartwatch.

What I like most about using the Galaxy Watch as an alarm clock is that it wakes me up through gentle wrist vibrations rather than blaring sounds. It also chimes, but it's quiet. It's more about the haptic feedback than the sound element.

In other words, I found the Galaxy Watch to be a better alarm clock than the smartwatch if I want to avoid waking other people in the home with my morning alarm.

Heavy sleepers beware

However, I'm not sure I can recommend using the Galaxy Watch alarm clock feature to heavy sleepers or if you're a habitual snoozer. If that's the case, you should test the Galaxy Watch alarm yourself in the weekend or on a day when you're not supposed to wake up early and go to work.

If you're too tired or a heavy sleeper, the gentle nudges on your wrist might not be noticeable enough to wake you up.

It's also very easy to stop the alarm clock on the Galaxy Watch if you have the new Double Pinch gesture enabled. All you need to stop the alarm clock on your Galaxy Watch is to double pinch your fingers, and you can do that without even opening your eyes.

You could say it's a bit easier to miss an alarm on the Galaxy Watch than a smartphone, but the feature has some advantages, so I recommend at least trying it out. You might prefer it to the smartwatch alarm clock, after all.
