We published an exclusive report detailing all the specs of the second-generation Galaxy Tab S tablets that Samsung is working on. Our insiders are almost always right on target with info like this, and while they can be wrong about some things, that's not the case this time, as at least the 9.7-inch Galaxy Tab S 2 has now shown up on GFXBench with specs similar to the ones we mentioned in our report.
According to the benchmark, the SM-T815 – likely the LTE model, while the Wi-Fi variant will be SM-T810 – has a 9.6-inch screen. GFXBench often misses the exact spec, and it's likely the case here as well – the display should be a 9.7-inch Super AMOLED unit, with a resolution of 2048×1536 pixels and an aspect ratio of 4:3. The processor is an octa-core unit clocked at 1.9 GHz – based on what we know so far, this could be the Exynos 5433 but could change to an Exynos 7420 at a later stage to take advantage of Android 5.0's support for 64-bit processing.
There's also an 8MP rear camera on-board (mentioned as 7MP, though that's another issue with GFXBench quite a lot of times), a 2MP front-facing camera, 32GB of internal storage, and 3GB RAM; Android 5.0.2 is running the show on the software side, possibly with the new version of TouchWiz that will debut on the Galaxy S6, which will launch in markets ahead of the Galaxy Tab S 2 lineup.
The 8-inch model will also feature the same specs, except for a smaller battery and a more compact body. Both tablets are set to be the thinnest tablets ever with a 5.4 mm profile; a metallic frame is what we have been told is present at this point, though a full-metal body is also possible given how thin the Galaxy Tab S 2 series is set to be.
