Canada is one of a few countries worldwide that has demo units of the Galaxy S6 and S6 edge available for the consumer public. Now, the country’s lower, North American “sibling” may join its ranks – if a new rumor holds weight.
A Reddit user claims he was told by “a guy at the Samsung desk” at Best Buy recently that Galaxy S6 units would be available at Best Buy on March 27 and that AT&T, Verizon, and Sprint Galaxy S6 pre-orders would launch on the same day. Finally, “pre-orders would come with a free device,” though what this free device is wasn’t mentioned in the post.
According to the Reddit user, US customers can expect to see demo units of the Galaxy S6 next Friday, March 27th. The date itself doesn’t sound out of the question, especially when you consider that the Galaxy S6 and S6 edge are to debut in mid-April, and that US carrier Verizon will open pre-orders on April 1st. The April 10 claim, however, goes against a previous date rumored for the US launch of Samsung’s latest devices, so it remains to be seen if this rumor is true. Keep in mind also that only Sprint, AT&T, and Verizon are included in the April 10 launch; we have no information on T-Mobile at the moment.
The March 27 date includes not only the Galaxy S6 demo viewing (the Galaxy S6 edge not included) but also the start of American pre-orders of Samsung’s newest smartphones. Seeing new devices before committing to a buy is never a bad thing.
The last portion of the Reddit user’s statement is reminiscent of a number of deals we’ve seen with pre-orders worldwide: the addition of a “free device” with a Galaxy S6 pre-order. While Samsung promised a similar deal for South African pre-orders, we’ve received word that Vodacom SA will not honor Samsung’s promise. Hopefully, if the free device in question refers to a wireless charging pad, then Best Buy customers will face a better outcome than some SA customers may experience.
As stated above, the Galaxy S6 edge is not included in the March 27 Best Buy demo launch, but customers who aren’t concerned with paying a little more for “the edge” won’t miss a thing.
