Samsung’s new U Flex headphones can bend and launch Bixby for you

Samsung has just launched a new pair of headphones, dubbed U Flex. As the name suggests, these headphones can bend and flex – according to Samsung, the U Flex headphones' neckband can bend by up to 100 degrees without breaking. That means you can put these in your bag or pocket without fear of breaking the thing into two. The headphones come with an Active key that can launch Bixby for you on the Galaxy S8 or S8+, or any other function that you may choose.

For audio quality, the earphones come with “two-way speaker units that consist of 11-millimeter woofers and 8-millimeter tweeters that deliver powerful bass, deep mids and clear highs.” Whether they will offer the balanced sound Samsung says they are capable of remains to be seen, but if Samsung has used some of what it has learned from its Harman acquisition, we can expect the sound output to be impressive. Samsung has also built in support for its proprietary Scalable Codec technology (Android 7.0 and up), which reduces interference from stray Wi-Fi signals to maintain a smooth and strong Bluetooth connection across longer distances.

The headphones, in addition to flexing when you want them to, also vibrate on incoming calls and notifications. Battery life is touted at 10 hours on a single charge, far more than Samsung's futuristic-yet-far-from-ready-for-prime-time Icon X wireless earphones. The headphones are splash-resistant, and you get standard buttons including power and volume and a microUSB port for charging. As expected, you get full support for sound customization through Samsung's Level app.

The U Flex headphones will be available in blue, black, and ivory, although Samsung isn't saying when they will go on sale nor revealing its price tag. We'll be sure to let you know should we come across any of those details.
