Samsung is rolling out a new Galaxy S9 update that users say fixes the call issues the company's latest flagships have faced since launch. The Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ received an update with the April 2018 security patch late last month, but a separate update is now rolling out with call stability improvements. The new update shares its changelog with a previous one, but users are reporting that the problems they were facing with calls really have gone away for good this time.
Galaxy S9 update fixes call issues at last
For those unaware, the calling issues that have forced Samsung to release two software updates within a short span of time have been widely reported by owners of the S9 and S9+ across the globe. The Galaxy S9 or S9+ can mute the voice of the S9 user for up to 20 seconds at random during voice calls, and calls also suffer from distortion that makes it hard to understand what the other party is saying. These issues were severe enough for a lawsuit to be filed against Samsung in Israel for being unable to offer a fix and continuing to sell these devices in the market, and while that lawsuit may not be dropped because of the software update, it's good to see Samsung finally rolling out a solution.
The new update – build number G960FXXU1ARD4 and G965FXXU1ARD4 for the S9 and S9+ respectively – is rolling out in various countries at the moment, but it could be a while before it's rolled out to all Galaxy S9 and S9+ users, especially if they only just received the last update with the April security patch. Speaking of security patches, the latest update doesn't include security patch for May, which isn't surprising as Samsung's flagship phones don't usually receive the latest security updates so quickly and the company hasn't even officially announced the May 2018 patch yet.
