Galaxy Note 9 Bixby update brings an interesting fix for accidental presses

Pressing that Bixby key on the Galaxy Note 9, like previous Samsung devices with the Bixby key, fires up Bixby Voice. But, out of the box, the Note 9 had no option to prevent the Bixby key from doing anything. Samsung promised it would bring the option back with an update by the end of this month, and it has now started rolling out that update. And, interestingly, Samsung doesn't want you to completely disable it, only reduce chances of accidental presses.

Disable Galaxy Note 9 Bixby key? Samsung has an interesting solution

With the latest version of Bixby on the Galaxy Note 9, you can set the Bixby key to require two presses instead of one to fire up Bixby Voice. As before, long-pressing the key will always bring up Bixby Voice, but it won't trouble you if you press the button once by accident, which is fairly easy thanks to the more sensitive physical keys on the Galaxy Note 9. They are so sensitive, in fact, that you can even pull out the Bixby key as an extreme measure if you don't want it on your Note 9, although we don't really recommend that unless you make a living out of breaking and tearing down smartphones.

If you own a Galaxy Note 9, you can find this option in the Bixby app's settings after updating to the latest version. To update, press the Bixby key once to bring up the Bixby interface, tap the three-dot button on the top right, then tap Settings. Tap About Bixby Voice at the bottom of the settings menu, then hit the Update button. After updating, you can find a new Bixby key menu in the app's settings, where you can select between requiring one or two presses of the Bixby button.
