Samsung’s Galaxy A5 (2017) has started receiving the June 2019 security patch in multiple markets around the world. It appears the rollout has begun last week itself and has expanded to more variants and regions since then. The 2017 midranger has been receiving updates consistently since its launch, and Samsung is keeping that record intact with the latest release.
The SM-A520F variant is currently receiving the update in the Netherlands, Ukraine, Russia, Italy, Germany, Spain, New Zealand, Sri Lanka, Brazil, and a few other regions. The SM-A520W variant, meanwhile, is receiving the update in Canada. As of now, there doesn’t seem to be any trace of the June update for the Korean variants (SM-A520L, SM-A520K, and SM-A520S) of the device.
As detailed by Samsung in its latest security bulletin, the June 2019 Security Maintenance Release (SMR) fixes eight critical and over a dozen high-risk vulnerabilities in the Android OS. It also includes patches for 11 Samsung Vulnerabilities and Exposures (SVE) items of varying intensities. Other than the security fixes, the update doesn’t seem to bring anything new to the device.
Since the rollout has started a week back, the release should have reached a vast majority of users already. To check if the update is available to your device, go to Settings, select Software Update, and tap on the Download updates manually option. If you don’t see the update yet but want to have it right away, you can download the latest compatible firmware from our database and manually flash it.
