The June 2023 update is going live for more phones across North America, specifically the factory-unlocked Galaxy A52 5G and Galaxy A42 5G. Both phones, unbound by carriers, are getting the June 2023 security patch in North America, but despite these similarities, their stories are not alike.

The Galaxy A52 5G (SM-A526U1) is getting the new security patch for June 2023 across the USA. The update carries firmware version A526U1UES9EWE1. At the same time, the Galaxy A42 5G (SM-A426U1) is getting the June 2023 security patch only in Puerto Rico. At least as of now. The update can be identified by firmware version A426U1UES6UEWF3 and will likely become available in more markets as time goes by.

Don't expect any new One UI features from these releases

From the two firmware numbers mentioned above, we can determine that these updates don't include any extra One UI features or enhancements. These are routine firmware releases, and they are meant to improve the security level of the factory-unlocked, 5G-enabled Galaxy A52 and Galaxy A42.

Last week, Samsung revealed that the June 2023 security patch includes a total of 64 fixes. Fifty-three of those fixes target security flaws found in Google's software, while eleven address security issues found in Samsung hardware and software.

Galaxy A52 and A42 users in North America have a couple of options for acquiring the June 2023 security patch. They can wait for the notification to arrive, after which they can tap it and let the process complete. They can also access the “Software update” menu inside the Settings app on their phones and tap “Download and install” to trigger the update manually. And alternatively, users who prefer manual updates via a Windows PC can download the official firmware files from our website.
