Amazon's Alexa+ is powered by improved AI models and Generative AI
Alexa+, the next-generation AI assistant from Amazon, brings several new features. More importantly, it can understand you better and remember things from your previous conversations. It is also more conversational and understands natural language. So, you don't need to remember the exact voice command to get things done. You can ask it for information or do things for you in a more natural language.
Over time, it understands your habits and usage patterns and offers you better services. It can also perform tasks in a better way. So, you can do calendar planning, gift shopping, travel arrangements, and even use Alexa+ to help you study.
You can create Routines (automation rules) on Alexa+ using just your voice. You can move music between rooms, skip to a specific scene in Prime Video on a Fire TV device, and search for things that happened in your home if you have Amazon's Ring security cameras.
For example, you can ask Alexa+, “Did someone take out the garbage bins?” The AI assistant will comb through that day's security camera footage to bring you that information.
You can upload documents to it or forward your emails to analyze them, which will help you find the right information. This feature is similar to ChatGPT and Gemini, where you can upload documents. Alexa+ can remember things from those documents and emails to answer your questions later.
In the future, Alexa+ can generate stories for kids and read them when asked. Amazon claimed that its new AI assistant can do other things for you, including booking an Uber taxi, making a hotel reservation, and getting local service provider recommendations. It can even shop for you online.
How much does Alexa+ cost and when will it be available?
Alexa+ isn't free, though. It costs $19.99 per month, which is a lot. However, if you already have an Amazon Prime membership, you can use Alexa+ for free.
Amazon announced that Alexa+ will be available in the US in the next few weeks. It will be available on all Echo devices, the Alexa app for smartphones and tablets, and on the web via Mac or PC. Echo Show 8, Echo Show 10, Echo Show 15, and Echo Show 21 users in the early access period will get the first dibs to use Alexa+.
It isn't clear if it will be available on Samsung's home appliances with screens, soundbars, and TVs via the existing Alexa app. That information could be revealed in the coming weeks.
