Over the past few years, Google has been releasing the first beta of its upcoming Android OS upgrade before its I/O developers conference. True to form, the company has started rolling out the Android 14 Beta 1 today for eligible devices ahead of Google I/O 2023 next month.
The I/O developers conference is where Google officially unveils its new Android OS upgrades. While the company has provided some details about this Android version already, we'll get to learn about it in a lot more detail next month.
Android 14 Beta 1 is now available but not for Samsung phones
Members of the Android Beta Program can start using the Android 14 Beta 1 on their devices today. Google only provides the beta firmware to its eligible Pixel devices. The beta firmware is available for the entire gamut of Google phones from Pixle 4a to the Pixel 7 Pro.
Samsung Galaxy phone owners are used to beta programs but this one isn't for you. No Samsung device is eligible for Google's Android 14 beta program. You'll have to wait for a few months for Samsung to launch the One UI 6.0 beta program.
The company will release Android 14 for its devices later this year. It will be accompanied by a new major upgrade for its custom Android skin, One UI 6.0. Details are slim at this point in time about what we can expect from One UI 6.0 but it's certainly going to bring new features and cosmetic improvements.
Samsung has impressed us with the speed of its Android 13 One UI 5.0 roll out which began late last year. There's every reason to believe that the company will keep it up and we'll get the final Android 14 One UI 6.0 release before the end of 2023, at least for high-end devices.
