Google introduced the Material You design language to Android three years ago with Android 12. Samsung adopted that design language with One UI 4.0 and improved it in subsequent releases of One UI. Now, Google has brought more improvements to Material You with the Android 15 update, and we may see them in One UI 7.0.
Material You gets contrast options with Android 15
Android 15 brings improvements to Material You customizations (via Android Police & Eduarad0). Users can choose color contrast, and the colors used in certain UI elements will change accordingly. As you can see in the screenshots below, there are three color contrast options: Default, Medium, and High. Choosing Medium and High increases the contrast of UI elements that are the same color as the wallpaper.
Android 15 also lets users customize text contrast, a feature aimed at improving accessibility for those with vision impairments. Increasing the contrast of text adds a black highlight under the text across the UI, making it easier to read. These features aren't completely new, though. They were earlier present in Accessibility settings in Android 14. However, Google has now made them easier to access.
Our video below shows how Samsung implemented Material You in One UI 6.0. Once the homescreen wallpaper is chosen, Samsung's Color Palette feature (based on Material You) will choose a few colors from that wallpaper and apply them to certain UI elements. Users can choose between a preset of color combinations or single colors for further customization.
Google has already released Android 15 Beta 2 and as we reported earlier, Samsung has started internal beta development of One UI 7.0. However, the South Korean firm will likely wait a couple more months before opening the One UI 7.0 Beta Program to the public.
It could be announced in the mid of Q3 or the end of Q3 of this year. The stable One UI 7.0 update could be released in the fourth quarter of 2024.
