Back in February, Google upgraded Android’s Photo Picker with the ability to display photos and videos that are stored locally as well as in cloud backups apps, such as Google Photos, on the same screen. A month later, the company made the feature available on Samsung’s devices as well.
Unfortunately, this new feature in Android’s Photo Picker lacks a very basic and needful option, and that is the ability to search for photos. Due to that, you have to manually go through all the photos to find the one you are looking for, which could take a lot of time. Well, that's going to change soon.
The story continues after the video…
On the second day of Google I/O 2024, Google revealed that it will soon upgrade Android’s Photo Picker with a search option (via Android Authority). This option should appear as a search bar in the user interface. You will then be able to search for a photo by describing it in the search bar, which should save you a lot of time.
What’s even more impressive is that the search functionality will work for files that are stored locally as well as in the cloud backup apps, which should save you even more time. Google says that this feature is coming “later this year.” We hope that the company rolls out this feature quickly as it will be very helpful to many people.
