Apple’s bonkers strategy to counter dual-fold Galaxy Tab

After launching several foldable smartphones, Samsung is reportedly working on a dual-fold device that can turn into a full-fledged tablet. To counter that device, Apple is reportedly building a giant foldable device that can turn from a tablet into a laptop.

Apple's first foldable tablet could turn into a laptop

Apple may have a completely different strategy for its large-screen foldable device. According to a report from Bloomberg, Apple plans to release a giant, 18.8-inch creaseless iPad in 2028. The company appears to have created a prototype of that device, and it has an almost invisible crease.

Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, who has an impeccable track record of reporting upcoming Apple devices, describes the under-development device as having “two iPad Pros side-by-side.

The report claims that its operating system will combine elements from iPadOS and macOS and be powerful enough to run macOS apps. And that could be the bare minimum that iPad fans expect. The latest 13.3-inch iPad Pro, which costs $1,299, still doesn't run macOS despite featuring full-fledged Mac chips.

The foldable iPad that Apple is planning to launch in the coming years could cost at least $2,000, and after spending a fortune, consumers might expect to be able to use pro-grade apps for their professional work.

In comparison, reports about the foldable Galaxy Tab paint a completely different picture. Samsung is reportedly working on a dual-foldable device with two hinges that would allow it to turn from a Galaxy S smartphone-sized device to a Galaxy Z Fold-sized device with one hinge unfolded and a Galaxy Tab-sized device with two hinges unfolded.

Look at some of Samsung's innovative display form factors in our video below.

While Samsung popularized foldable phones, its sales have stagnated over the past few years. To rejuvenate its sales, the company might soon bring the foldable screen technology to Galaxy Tabs and then to Galaxy Book laptops.
