Folks at 9to5Mac have seen a new investor note from Jeff Pu, which reveals new information about the four smartphones that Apple will launch later this year: iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, and iPhone 16 Pro Max.
iPhone 16 lineup to get new chipset and more RAM
According to the analyst, the iPhone 16 and the iPhone 16 Plus will feature the Apple A18 chipset, which will be built on the 3nm fabrication process. Along with the new (and faster) processor, the two phones will feature 8GB RAM. That’s an increase of 2GB in the amount of memory compared to the iPhone 15 and the iPhone 15 Plus, which have 6GB RAM. Jeff also notes that the iPhone 16 and the iPhone 16 Plus will continue to use the same modem as last year’s models, the Qualcomm X70. However, the two upcoming devices will have Wi-Fi 6E, an upgrade over Wi-Fi 6 in the iPhone 15 and the iPhone 15 Plus.
Pro models to have a new model with faster 5G speeds
Coming to the iPhone 16 Pro and the iPhone 16 Pro Plus, Jeff says that the two phones will pack the Apple A18 Pro SoC, which will be faster than the Apple 18 as the name suggests. That’s not surprising though as previous reports also suggested the same thing. Here’s the interesting thing though. Jeff says that the two devices will feature the Qualcomm X75 modem, which offers a significant increase in 5G speeds compared to the Qualcomm X70 modem that’s in the iPhone 15 Pro and the iPhone 15 Pro Max. Along with that, the two models will also feature Wi-Fi 7, an upgrade to Wi-Fi 6E on last year’s Pro models.
Jeff also says that the iPhone 16 Pro and the iPhone 16 Pro Max will get a 48MP ultrawide camera as opposed to the 12MP unit in the current-generation models. This is something that Ming-Chi Kuo also reported earlier this month.
