Android 13 brought a new design for the media player widget that appears in the notification panel and on the lock screen. However, you can experience the new widget with only those apps that have added support for it. So far, popular music streaming applications, such as Spotify, Tidal, and YouTube Music, added support for the new widget. Apple Music, however, didn’t. But that’s changing today.
Apple Music v4.2, which is currently in the beta testing stage, adds support for Android 13’s new music player widget (via 9to5Google). The new widget allows app developers to offer two buttons of their choice at the bottom right corner, and Apple has decided to go with shuffle and repeat buttons. These buttons appear bold when they are activated.
Plus, you also get a whimsical progress bar which improves the overall appearance. There’s a large play/pause button with a squircle box in the right-center portion of the widget. Apple Music’s new music playback widget looks more pleasing than before and is in line with Android 13’s design language. You can experience Apple Music v4.2 by signing up for the app’s beta testing program on Google Play Store. If you are using a Samsung device, it has to be running One UI 5.0 or a newer version of the software to experience the new widget.
Along with the new music player widget, Apple has also announced the Apple Music Classical app for Android and iOS, which offers an extensive collection of classical music which isn’t available on Apple Music. Meanwhile, Google is adding real-time lyrics to YouTube Music.
