According to a new report from Bloomberg, Apple is planning and/or developing the AirPods 4, a new version of the AirPods Pro, which will most likely be called the AirPods Pro (3rd generation), and a new version of the AirPods Max, which will offer USB Type-C port. These models are expected to launch between 2024 and 2025.
AirPods 4
Reportedly, the AirPods 3 aren't selling very well, and that’s why, Apple is reimagining the non-Pro AirPods lineup from the ground-up. To that extent, the company will launch two variants of the AirPods 4, at two different price points. Both the models will have a “new design that looks like a blend” of the AirPods 3 and the AirPods Pro. However, none of the two earbuds will offer replaceable and customisable ear tips like the AirPods Pro. The two versions will also feature a USB Type-C port instead of the Lightning port.
As for the difference between the two AirPods 4 variants, the costlier model will feature active noise cancellation and a speaker on the charging case for Find My integration, whereas, the cheaper one will miss out on both features. Bloomberg expects Apple to launch the AirPod 4 sometime next year.
AirPods Pro (3rd generation)
According to the publication, the AirPods Pro (3rd generation) will offer a new design and a new chipset compared to the AirPods Pro (2nd generation), which means that we can expect it to offer a more comfortable fit, better audio quality, improved Bluetooth range, longer battery life, and new features. Reportedly, new features could be focused towards health. The AirPods Pro (3rd generation) are expected to hit the market in 2025.
New AirPods Max
As for the new AirPods Max, it will come with a USB Type-C port instead of the Lightning port, and that will be the only change it will offer. Reportedly, it will not come with a new chipset, which means we won’t get any features that the AirPods Pro (2nd generation) offers, including Adaptive Audio and improved Find My integration. According to Bloomberg, the new AirPods Max will arrive “around the end of next year.”
