Apple is testing a punch-hole display for iPhone 16 Pro but there’s a catch

Apple is expected to launch four iPhone models next year, the iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, and iPhone 16 Pro Max. Since last month, we have had at least three leaks about the upcoming lineup of smartphones, which reveal details about the processor, display, and cameras of these devices. Now, we have another leak, and this one sheds light on the cutouts for the front-facing cameras and the Face ID hardware on the iPhone 16 as well as the iPhone 17 models.

According to a post from @MajinBuOfficial on X (previously known as Twitter), Apple is testing the iPhone 16 Pro with a punch-hole display, which replaces the Dynamic Island that’s on the iPhone 15 series smartphones, a feature that the company introduced with the iPhone 14 lineup. The tipster, however, claims that Apple hasn’t made a final decision if it is going to use the punch-hole display on the iPhone 16 Pro.

Apple iPhone 16 Pro With Punch Hole Display Render

The leak suggests that even though Apple is testing a display with a punch-hole on the iPhone 16 Pro, we might most likely get to see such a screen only with the iPhone 17. It means that the iPhone 16 Pro might continue to use a display with Dynamic Island. As you can see in the render image, the cutout seems larger than that you find on Android phones which could most likely be because it contains Face ID hardware in addition to the camera.

There’s still a lot of time for the iPhone 16 series to come out, and a lot could change between now and then. So, take this leak with a pinch of salt.
