Asus ROG Ally gets cool new features with the latest update

Asus has added a bunch of new features to the ROG Ally with new updates to Armoury Crate SE (ACSE) and the microcontroller unit (MCU) of the device. The additions include support for the gyroscope sensor built into the device, the ability to calibrate the gyroscope, joysticks, and triggers, and an option to turn CPU Boost off. The company is pushing these updates right around the time when the handheld gaming console is turning six months old.

The latest update for ACSE bumps the app’s version to 1.4.5, whereas, the new firmware for the microcontroller unit carries version 316. While the update for ACSE brings a ton of new features to the device, three big additions should put a smile on the faces of the owners.

Asus ROG Ally now supports gyroscope

First and foremost, the update enables the gyroscope built into the handheld gaming console. With that, people can now use the built-in gyroscope to play games on the device, which opens up a whole new world of possibilities. According to the company, people will have to configure the gyroscope controls on a game-by-game basis in ACSE.

Ability to calibrate gyroscope, joysticks, and triggers

Second, Asus has added the ability for people to calibrate the gyroscope, joysticks, and triggers, which should provide more personalized and accurate controls in games. According to the company, these input devices have a little bit of variation from one ROG Ally to another. So, the calibration option will help people get the most out of the gyroscope, joysticks, and triggers on their unit.

Option to turn off CPU Boost

Third, Asus had added an option in ACSE to turn off CPU Boost. Doing so will limit the amount of power going to the processor, which will reduce the heat generated by the processor. That will not only keep the device cooler but also reduce power consumption, which would increase the battery life of the handheld gaming console. The ability to turn CPU Boost off will come in handy in situations where people prefer lower temperatures and longer battery life over faster performance.
