Samsung's new high-end tablet lineup is here. The company unveiled the Galaxy Tab S9, Galaxy Tab S9+, and Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra during today's Galaxy Unpacked event in Korea. All these devices come with faster performance, improved durability (mainly thanks to the addition of water and dust resistance), more feature-rich software, and slightly improved cameras. And the most affordable tablet of three models, the Galaxy Tab S9, has received a massive screen upgrade.
Galaxy Tab S9 has a 120Hz OLED screen and 20% larger quad speakers
The Galaxy Tab S9 sports an 11-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X screen with QHD+ resolution, a 120Hz variable refresh rate, and HDR10+ certification. Last year, only the Galaxy Tab S8+ and the Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra were launched with OLED screens, while the base Galaxy Tab S8 was stuck with an IPS LCD screen. Thankfully, that has changed this year, and even the base Galaxy Tab S9 has an OLED screen.
The 11-inch OLED screen will be excellent for watching videos, even under direct sunlight, thanks to what Samsung calls Vision Booster technology. A 120Hz refresh rate will ensure that things flow smoothly on the screen, whether you're just navigating through the user interface, scrolling while browsing the web, or playing high-end games (naturally, support for a high refresh rate will depend on the game).
The tablet also comes bundled with an S Pen that charges when magnetically attached to the designated charging slot at the back of the device. It has an IP68 rating for dust and water resistance, so you can carry your entertainment anywhere without worrying too much about dust or water damage, a first for a flagship Samsung tablet.
Samsung has also improved the speakers with its latest high-end tablet. The Galaxy Tab S9 features a quad-speaker setup that is up to 20% bigger than the Galaxy Tab S8. The speaker system is tuned by AKG and features Dolby Atmos for immersive audio. The combination of an OLED screen and an improved quad-speaker setup should offer users a more immersive multimedia and productivity experience compared to the Tab S9's predecessor.
