Samsung's Unpacked event for the Galaxy S24 series was today and we did get to see the new devices in San Jose, California. There were rumors that perhaps the company might show off a new device at the event, the much awaited Galaxy Ring in particular, and Samsung surely kept the best for last.
Towards the end of the event, as the company was talking about the improvements it's making to Samsung Health, it showed off a teaser of the Galaxy Ring, confirming that this new form factor will be coming in the near future.
Samsung provides a first look at the Galaxy Ring
We've been hearing for about a year now that Samsung is working on a new health and fitness product called the Galaxy Ring. As the name suggests, this is a ring to be worn on your finger to track essential health metrics.
These features have typically been confined to Samsung's smartwatches but the company realizes that perhaps someone may not want to buy a smartwatch to access the health and fitness tracking features. A ring gives them the flexibility to enjoy all that Samsung Health has to offer without having to strap a smartwatch on their wrist. It's also possible that the Galaxy Ring may have additional capabilities that the Galaxy smartwatches don't.
It's not an entirely new concept. There are other rings on the market that do just that, but Samsung's edge here is obviously the Samsung Health platform, that has been significantly improved over the past few years with advanced features. Samsung Health works across the entire Galaxy ecosystem, so the Galaxy Ring will be the perfect device for anyone who uses a Samsung phone or smartwatch.
Samsung has only given us a glimpse of the Galaxy Ring during the Unpacked event today. There's no further information about this product. Nevertheless, it was exciting to see the company tease something that we've all been looking forward to for quite some time now. Let's hope Samsung comes out with more information about the Galaxy Ring sooner rather than later.
