The April 2023 update for the Galaxy S23 Ultra was chock-full of camera improvements, but Samsung's journey is far from complete. The company has just confirmed that it plans to release even more camera and gallery updates to older high-end phones.
The Samsung Community moderator in charge of camera updates shared a feature list containing past, future, and “under development review” camera and gallery features, along with the Galaxy phones that are supposed to receive them.
These are the features that are now confirmed to eventually become available on more Galaxy phones through future updates:
- Front/selfie camera Pro and Pro Video modes and selfie Expert RAW support: Galaxy S22 series, Galaxy Z Fold 4.
- 300x Astro Hyperlapse: Galaxy S22 series, Galaxy Z Fold 4, Galaxy Z Flip 4.
- Gallery app will offer the new Image Clipper feature on more phones: Galaxy S20, Galaxy S21, Galaxy S22 series, Galaxy Note 20 and Note 20 Ultra, Galaxy Z Fold 2, Fold 3, and Fold 4, Galaxy Z Flip LTE/5G, Galaxy Z Flip 3, Galaxy Z Flip 4.
There's also one camera feature that is under development review:
- Improved lens switching effect allowing mobile photographers to control the zoom dynamically: Galaxy S22 series, Galaxy Z Fold 4, Galaxy Z Flip 4.
As to when these features will be released for these older Galaxy S, Galaxy Note, and Galaxy foldable phones, Samsung hasn't revealed an exact time frame.
Samsung has already released several features on its list for older Galaxy phones, including Expert RAW, Camera Assistant, easier selfie color adjustments, QR code scan optimization, improved photo remastering, Improved story mode, better image search, more detailed photo and video information in the Gallery app when swiping up, and auto framing.
