Although the Galaxy A02s already received the May 2023 security patch in some markets, in others, the phone is only now getting the older April 2023 update. Samsung is now rolling out the April 2023 update for the unlocked Galaxy A02s in the USA.
Carrier versions of the Galaxy A02s in the USA (SM-A025U) started getting the April 2023 update a week ago. Now, the same update is available for unlocked Galaxy A02s models (SM-A025U1). Users can identify the update for the carrier and unlocked models by firmware versions A025USQU2CWD2 and A025U1UEU2CWD3, respectively.
Samsung revealed the changelog for the April 2023 security patch almost two months ago. The update patches 55 security flaws affecting Google's firmware and 15 security issues found in Samsung Galaxy phones and tablets. Some of those flaws affect Exynos chipsets, but the Galaxy A02s in the USA is powered by a Snapdragon SoC, so, as usual, not every security fix applies to every Galaxy device.
Galaxy A02s users in the USA should be able to download the April 2023 update from the notification once they receive it. Alternatively, they can try triggering the update process by opening the Settings app on their phones, navigating to “Software update,” and tapping “Download and install.” SamMobile readers can also access the firmware section of our website and download the latest official Samsung updates, which they can manually install on their phones using a Windows PC.
