After releasing the April 2024 security patch to the carrier-unlocked variants of the Galaxy Note 20  and the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra earlier this week, Samsung has now started rolling out the latest security update to the carrier-locked variants of the two devices for the United States, which have model numbers SM-N981U and SM-N986U.

With the new software update, the firmware version of your Galaxy Note 20 unit should change to N98XUSQS6HXD1. The April 2024 security patch offers a fix for 44 security issues, and that’s the only thing the new firmware offers. Samsung has made the update available on three networks, Comcast, T-Mobile, and Xfinity Mobile. The company should expand it to other networks soon.

Owning the Galaxy Note 20 for so many years, you might be well aware that the device notifies you about an update when one is available. You might also be familiar with the process of checking for the update manually. If you aren’t, you can do so by going to Settings » Software update » Download and install. The new firmware is also available for download from our database.

Samsung stopped offering new versions of Android to the Galaxy Note 20 series after rolling out Android 13. If that’s making you think about upgrading to a new device, the Galaxy S24 Ultra will be a perfect fit for you, as it offers an S-Pen, just like your Galaxy Note 20. You can check out our review of the device in our video below.
