The last software update for the carrier-locked variant of the Galaxy S20 FE 5G in the US (SM-781U) was something major. It brought the Android 13 update (One UI 5.0) with the December 2022 security patch to the device. It was probably the phone’s last major update. Today, the carrier-locked Galaxy S20 FE 5G is getting another software update in the US, and it improves the security of the device by bringing the January 2023 security patch.
The new software update comes with firmware version G781USQS9GWA4 and offers the January 2023 security patch. It fixes more than fifty security issues in the phone. The update is currently rolling out to devices on Dish, MetroPCS, Sprint, and T-Mobile networks in the US. Devices on other networks should also get the update in the next few days. Samsung has also made this update available for the international 4G and 5G variants of the devices and the carrier-unlocked model.
Once the January 2023 security patch becomes available for your Galaxy S20 FE 5G, it will notify you. Just tap on the notification and click on the Download and install button to get the update. To check for the update manually, go to Settings » Software update and click on Download and install. You can also download the update from our database and flash it manually.
Launched in September 2020, the Galaxy S20 FE 5G has been one of the most popular and high-selling smartphones from Samsung. However, since the device is now three years old, it will not receive newer versions of Android. If it’s something that concerns you, and you are planning to get a new Samsung phone, you should definitely take a look at the newly-launched Galaxy S23 series.
