Samsung has started rolling out the September 2023 security update to the carrier-locked versions of Galaxy S21 series phones in the US. The factory-unlocked versions of the phones haven't received this update yet, but the global versions have received the new security update in some countries.
Galaxy S21 September 2023 security update: What's new?
The carrier-locked versions of the Galaxy S21, Galaxy S21+, and Galaxy S21 Ultra are getting the new update with firmware version G99xUSQS9EWI1. It brings the September 2023 security patch that fixes over 60 security vulnerabilities found in the previous software. The update brings just the security patch, so don't expect to see any new features or performance improvements.
If you live in the US and have a carrier-locked Galaxy S21 series phone, you can check for the new software update by navigating to Settings » Software update and tapping Download and install. You can also download the new firmware file from our firmware database and flash it manually.
The Galaxy S21 series was launched in early 2021 with Android 11 onboard and received the Android 12 update in late 2021. Samsung released the Android 13 update to the phones in late 2022, and the Galaxy S21 series has already received the One UI 6.0 beta update in some countries. Expect them to get the stable Android 13 update in a couple of months.
