Some may say that Samsung is finally getting some competition in the foldable phone segment, with various other brands offering more Galaxy Z Flip and Galaxy Z Fold alternatives than ever. Even Google joined the foldable phone market with the Pixel Fold. Motorola keeps trying to steal the Galaxy Z Flip's market dominance, and Honor turned some heads recently with the announcement of the very thin Magic V2. Meanwhile, OnePlus is reportedly readying its first foldable phone for an unveiling next month.
Is Samsung's foldable phone business in trouble? We'll let sales figures and market analyses decide. But what's certain is that Samsung has something no other OEM has, and it goes beyond top-shelf hardware and stellar firmware support. Namely, Samsung has the best retail and repair service network among all other brands. And when it comes to foldable phones, Samsung or otherwise, good support and warranty programs go a long way.
Samsung Care+ and more than 900 service locations in the USA alone
One of the biggest hurdles of foldable phones is that they cost more than slab-type phones, but another consists of durability concerns from potential buyers. More moving parts mean more potential points of failure, and the hinged design creates new challenges for dust and water resistance. On top of that, foldable displays aren't as resilient as rigid panels covered in Gorilla Glass.
Out of all the foldable smartphone OEMs on the market, Samsung undeniably does the best job of alleviating these concerns. The company constantly strived to bring foldable phone prices down — although, sadly, it might finally crack under all the pressure and follow others' examples and increase Z Fold 5 and Z Flip 5 prices this year.
Furthermore, Samsung Galaxy phones have water resistance. And perhaps more importantly, should something break on a Samsung foldable phone, customers (in the USA alone) can benefit from warranty claims at more than 900 locations, 700+ UBreakiFix locations, and 200+ Best Buy stores.
And in May, Samsung said its robust care network consists of more than 10,000 certified repair technicians. That's just in the USA, but Samsung's repair and customer service network spans multiple markets across the globe.
Finally, the Samsung Care+ program lets Galaxy Z Fold and Z Flip users benefit from the best premium protection program (for a fee), offering unlimited repairs for damage from drops, spills, and mechanical breakdowns for two years. There are a couple of Care+ tiers, one of which even includes Theft and Loss protection. Through these programs, users can get same-day display repairs for just $29.
And even though other OEMs may have similar warranty goals for their foldable phones and offer decent paid protection programs, Samsung undeniably has the most robust warranty and repair network. Potentially, foldable phone customers can feel more confident when buying a Galaxy Z Fold and Z Flip, knowing that if things happen to break, they'll benefit from the best support.
