On Wednesday, The Walt Disney Company held an earnings call for the firm’s Q4 2023 financial results. During the call, the CEO of Disney, Bob Iger, revealed that the firm is developing an application that would serve as a unified experience for Disney+ and Hulu. In other words, it is making a single app for Disney+ and Hulu, which will replace the two separate apps that are currently available for the two streaming services.
The news comes right after the company announced that Disney would take full control of Hulu after buying Comcast’s share of the streaming platform. According to Bob, the beta version of the upcoming app will be released in December 2023. At the time of the release, it will be available to only those people who have subscribed to Disney+ as well as Hulu. The stable version of the app will arrive in “early spring 2024” for a wider audience.
According to the CEO, a single app for Disney+ and Hulu will result in “increased engagement, greater advertising opportunities, lower churn, and reduced customer acquisition costs” which would increase “overall margins.” For customers, a single app for Disney+ and Hulu would make it easier to explore content from the two streaming platforms. Expect the unified app to arrive on all platforms, including Android and iOS.
