Samsung has announced that Disney and Pixar's new movie Elemental will be showcased in 4K HDR exclusively on its Onyx Cinema LED screen. The movie was released globally on June 16, and it has been mastered in 4K HDR. Viewers can enjoy a more captivating and vibrant experience in theatres worldwide that use the Onyx Cinema Display.
Samsung Onyx is the world's first LED Cinema Display and is certified by DCI (Digital Cinema Initiatives). It displays exceptionally rich colors and brighter visuals, and it succeeds projectors that have been in theatres over the past 100 years and display content in SDR (Standard Dynamic Range). The South Korean firm says that its Onyx Cinema LED Display can create up to 300 nits of peak brightness, which is nearly 6x compared to standard projectors in theatres.
Starting with Elemental, Disney-owned Pixar plans to continue releasing its upcoming movies in 4K HDR for Cinema LED displays in theatres. Samsung plans to partner with more movie studios to bring 4K HDR movies to its Onyx Cinema Displays across the world. Starting with the Lotte Cinema World Tower, Seoul, in 2017, Samsung installed Onyx Cinema Displays in over 120 movie theatres worldwide.
Hoon Chung, Executive VP of Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics, said, “With Pixar’s new movie, we present 4K HDR content exclusively on cinema LEDs for the first time in the industry. We will continue to actively expand partnerships in the movie industry based on our leading LED technology innovation that expresses accurate image quality and vivid colors not available anywhere else.”
