Samsung's flagship tablets have so far lacked IP67 water and dust resistance but that could change this year. SamMobile hears that Samsung's upcoming flagship tablet, the Galaxy Tab S9 series, will have an IP67 rating for water resistance.
This has been a longstanding demand from customers of its high-end tablets, so this possibility is certainly exciting. It's the next step in the evolution of Samsung's flagship Galaxy Tab series.
Galaxy Tab S9 IP67 water resistance a big win for fans
Samsung has offered some “Active” tablets in the past that featured water resistance but this capability has been missing from its high-end tablets. It was unusual that even in 2022 when Samsung's foldables could be water resistant, the Galaxy Tab S8 series wasn't.
Clearly, it's not a lack of capability. If something as complex as a foldable smartphone could be made water resistant, surely the same could be done for tablets. Whatever the case may have been, at least it's good to know that Samsung is seriously considering IP67 water resistance for the Galaxy Tab S9 series.
Whether this ends up happening is still up in the air right now. As it stands, signs point to a water resistant Galaxy Tab S9 series this year, but it's also not uncommon for preliminary device plans to change. For example, Samsung was going to put the S Pen inside this year's Galaxy Z Fold 5 but now seems to have changed its mind.
Even without the IP67 rating, the Galaxy Tab S9 series will already be a contender for the best Android tablet of 2023. This capability is only going to elevate its ranks even further, putting it in a class of its own.
Samsung isn't expected to launch the Galaxy Tab S9 series before the second half of this year. So we still have a few months to go before this becomes official. Fingers crossed till then!
