We can exclusively confirm some details about Samsung's next flagship tablet today. The successor to the Galaxy Tab S4 isn't going to be called the Galaxy Tab S5. Samsung will launch it as the Galaxy Tab S6 instead, as these images sent to us by a tipster confirm. This name change was on the cards after Samsung launched a premium mid-range tablet in the form of the Galaxy Tab S5e.
What's in a name, though? What matters more is the tablet's specs, chief among which is the processor. Many will be glad to know that this won't be a repeat of the Galaxy Tab S4 which came with the Snapdragon 835 even though the 845 was already available.
Galaxy Tab S6 gets a dual camera and a new S Pen
Not only can we confirm that Samsung's next flagship tablet is called the Galaxy Tab S6, we also hear that it will indeed tout the Snapdragon 855 processor. This means that it will come with the latest Snapdragon chipset. An earlier Geekbench listing revealed that the tablet will have 6GB of RAM and run Android 9 Pie. The tablet features a 10.5-inch display.
We hear that Samsung's next high-end tablet will skip the 64GB storage option. The base model will offer 128GB storage while 256GB will be an option for those looking to spend a bit more. The Galaxy Tab S6 will also come with its very own stylus much like its predecessor. There's also going to be a groove at the back where the S Pen will attach magnetically and charge. Yes, it suggests there will be a Bluetooth-enabled S Pen like the Galaxy Note 9's. This means we will get more S Pen features with the new tablet since the stylus can always be carried with it.
Our sources tell us that the Galaxy Tab S6 is going to feature a dual camera at the back. The specifics of this camera system haven't been detailed as yet. However, this would be the first Samsung tablet to get it. It may be a ToF sensor for features such as real-time 3D tracking. This will make the tablet a great option for people who require such features for work.
We also hear that the Galaxy Tab S6, bearing model number SM-T860 for the Wi-Fi and SM-T865 for the LTE variants, will be available in Grey, Blue and Brown colors. There's going to be a keyboard cover accessory which isn't surprising. Samsung offers one for the Galaxy Tab S5e as well.
What's unclear at this point in time is when Samsung is planning on launching this tablet. There have been no rumors to suggest that it could come out with the Galaxy Note 10 on August 7. It still remains a possibility, though. The Galaxy Tab S4 was announced on August 1, 2018, just a week before the Galaxy Note 9's unveiling on August 9. There's also the possibility that Samsung might launch the device at IFA 2019 in Berlin this September.
