Samsung is developing a new M-branded phone that will hopefully offer great specs for a lower price, as Galaxy M phones usually do. The Galaxy M55 has popped up online again, this time through an FCC application.
The FCC documents confirm the SM-M556B model number and the phone's dual-SIM capabilities. The application mentions a battery manufactured by Ningde Amperex Technology, identified by model number HQ-6887NAS.
The FCC tested the Galaxy M55 and its battery using a Samsung 45W wall charger, namely the EP-TA845. However, the documents don't specify battery capacity and charging speed, so there's no guarantee that the Galaxy M55 supports 45W charging. More likely, it tops out at 25W, but the FCC used a beefier charger during testing.
A 5G Galaxy M phone with a Qualcomm chip
Another thing the FCC confirms is that the Galaxy M55 has 5G capabilities. It also has expandable storage, NFC connectivity, Bluetooth 5 (EDR), and Wi-Fi 802.11ax.
That about wraps up the M55's visit to the FCC. We have to look back at previous leaks and reports for more details. For instance, information revealed at the beginning of the year indicate that the Galaxy M55 might become the first Samsung phone to use a newer mid-range chip from Qualcomm.
The Galaxy M55 was spotted in an online benchmark sporting the SM-M556B model number, Android 14, 8GB of RAM, and the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 chip. The latter has eight CPU cores clocked at up to 2.4GHz and an Adreno 644 graphics chip. The Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 was announced in 2022.
We'll have to wait and see when and where Samsung might want to release the Galaxy M55. For reference, the Galaxy M54 was announced in March 2023 and released in April, which could mean we might have to wait a couple more months for the Galaxy M55 to make its way onto store shelves. We'll let you know as soon as we find out more.
The Galaxy M55 will likely run One UI 6.0 at launch, and we don't expect it to benefit from most of the AI features Samsung introduced with the Galaxy S24 series and One UI 6.1.
