Samsung had several new products to uncover at Galaxy Unpacked in Seoul. But the launch event, as exciting as it was, left some of us wanting more. The latest Samsung foldable phones, smartwatches, and high-end tablets stole the spotlight for a while and turned many heads. Nevertheless, we were left wondering about the company's upcoming FE devices, the Galaxy SmartTag 2, the next XR (Mixed Reality) headset, and whether or not Samsung has a new pair of Galaxy earbuds in the works.
Regarding the latter question, we might have an answer. New evidence shows that Samsung is indeed working diligently on a new pair of wireless earbuds. The official name is unknown, but our colleagues at GalaxyClub have uncovered that the model number of these new earbuds is SM-R400N.

New Galaxy earbuds to be released this or next year
There's little information regarding these new Galaxy earbuds, but the model number SM-R400N might hold some clues. For more context, the ongoing Galaxy Buds 2 Pro (2022) earbuds carry model number SM-R5xx. Meanwhile, the Galaxy Buds 2 wearables released in 2021 carry model number SM-R177.
Samsung's numbering scheme, therefore, suggests that the upcoming SM-R400N might not be released under the “Pro” brand or as a direct sequel to the Galaxy Buds 2 Pro.
If anything, the model number hints that the upcoming earbuds will be superior to at least most of the previous versions but probably cost less than the Galaxy Buds 2 Pro. If we were to guess, we'd say these upcoming earbuds have a higher probability of being called “Plus,” “Live,” “FE,” or “Buds 3” rather than “Pro.”
As to when Samsung might plan on releasing these new wearables, that's anyone's guess. However, it's not difficult to imagine Samsung unveiling the new Buds next to the Galaxy S23 FE before the end of 2023 or early next year alongside the Galaxy S24 smartphone series.
