Last month, following our exclusive report, Qualcomm confirmed in a roundabout way that Samsung's upcoming Galaxy S24 flagship will boast next-gen on-device generative AI features. Interest in this topic rekindled hours ago when Samsung unveiled its own generative AI model called Gauss. And now, Samsung is finally ready to open up about how its brand-new AI technologies will change the Galaxy user experience next year.

Samsung has just introduced Galaxy AI. The company said Galaxy AI marks the coming of a new era and offered a glimpse of what we can expect from this new tool.

The Korean tech giant describes Galaxy AI as a comprehensive mobile AI experience powered by both on-device AI developed in-house and cloud-based AI enabled by like-minded industry partners and leaders.

Samsung says this new technology “will transform your everyday mobile experience” without compromising your trust in Galaxy privacy and security.

Story continues after the video

In short, if Samsung Gauss is the company's in-house language model developed for clever AI applications, Galaxy AI is the experience that will leverage the capabilities of Gauss and other cloud-based AI tools to expand the mobile experience for users.

AI Live Translate Call should be coming with the Galaxy S24 series

Galaxy AI will enable new clever ways to interact with future Samsung smartphones and tablets. Although the company hasn't said which device will be the first to use Galaxy AI, it did say that the feature is coming to AI phones “early next year.” This likely means that Galaxy AI will debut with the Galaxy S24 series.

In more practical terms, Samsung offered one example of what Galaxy AI can do for customers. AI Live Translate Call is the first Galaxy AI feature coming to future Galaxy AI phones. It will turn mobile devices into personal translators for users who need them.

AI Live Translate Call will be integrated into the native call feature and enable audio and text translation in real-time. With the help of this new Galaxy AI-based tool, users will be able to carry out phone call conversations with people who speak a different language.

This live translate feature is just one component of the Galaxy AI experience. “This is just a glimpse of what's to come,” says Samsung, adding that we should “get ready for a new era of mobile AI.”
