When Samsung launched the Galaxy S20 FE last year, it committed to launching a new “FE” model of its flagship every year. That's why it didn't come as a surprise when we first found out about two months ago that the Galaxy S21 FE was in development.
The company is expected to launch the Fan Edition variant of the Galaxy S21 later this year. The first renders have now appeared online, giving us a glimpse of what to expect from the device.
First Galaxy S21 FE renders have surfaced
These renders have been published by @OnLeaks who has a pretty solid track record in these matters. He points out that this is an early look at the Galaxy S21 FE. It's quite possible that minor changes could be made prior to the launch.
At first glance, the Galaxy S21 FE looks quite similar to the Galaxy S21. Look closely and you'll see one big difference in the design. The rear camera housing isn't Contour Cut like it is on the Galaxy S21. On that device, it protrudes from the metal frame itself.
On the Galaxy S21 FE, the rear camera housing protrudes from the back panel, not the metal frame. That sleek element of the Contour Cut design is lost here but the overall design is good enough.
If history is any indication, the Galaxy S21 FE will have a “Glasstic” rear panel, which is just a fancy word for plastic. The dimensions are said to come in at 155.7 x 74.5 x 7.9mm. At these dimensions, it's marginally taller and wider than the Galaxy S21 but has the same thickness.
The Galaxy S21 FE is expected to feature a 6.4-inch flat Infinity-O display, slightly bigger than the Galaxy S21's 6.2-inch display. It will have a triple-camera setup at the back. We also know that it will be launched with at least five color options.
Samsung saw considerable success with the Galaxy S20 FE primarily because of its price tag. If the same strategy is repeated for the Galaxy S21 FE, Samsung might just have another hit on its hands.
