Samsung announced its 2025 TV lineup at CES 2025, consisting of new, brighter, and smarter models that employ more advanced AI features than ever before. Samsung offered plenty of reasons to be the brand of choice for TV buyers, but CES didn't cover everything you should know about the capabilities of Samsung TVs.
Smart Calibration is one of the most interesting features Samsung has on offer — a feature that wasn't in the spotlight at CES 2025 because it isn't new.
What is it? Well, as unusual as it may sound, it's a tool that gives flagship phone owners an edge over other TV users. And in case you're wondering, everyone at SamMobile uses Smart Calibration for Samsung TVs.
A fair reason to pair your Samsung TV with a high-end phone
We previously detailed how to use Smart Calibration to make your Samsung TV look better, so we won't go into a step-by-step process here. You can check out our guide for more information.
Nevertheless, we think this feature deserves a bit more spotlight, especially if you plan on buying your first Samsung TV in 2025. So, as a reminder and a brief explanation of this feature, Smart Calibration is a tool accessible through the SmartThings app on your phone.
Using Smart Calibration, Samsung TV users can calibrate their TV screens (particularly the “Movie” preset) and tune the image as closely as possible to what moviemakers intended. All you need is to point your phone's cameras at the TV screen for up to 15 minutes while a color and brightness calibration test is performed.
You might want to use a tripod for the process, but you can perform the test without one if you have enough patience and a steady hand. As long as you follow Samsung's instructions carefully, you should get results.
The tool may not be perfect, but it is a fantastic alternative to professional display calibration equipment, the latter of which can cost a small fortune.
Smart Calibration is supported by flagship Galaxy phones and iPhones (2019 or later), hence this article's title. The tool doesn't work with low and mid-range models because their cameras aren't powerful enough to accurately perform the calibration test. But as long as you have a flagship Galaxy phone released in 2019 or later (or an iPhone) and your TV synced with the SmartThings app on your handset, you can make your Samsung TV look even better than it does out-of-the-box.
Speaking of flagship phones, if you intend to buy a new Samsung handset soon, the launch of the Galaxy S25 series is just around the corner. Samsung will reveal it on January 22, but you can already make reservations for exclusive bonuses. Hit the button below for more info.
