Future Galaxy Buds could have this cool touchscreen case!

Samsung showcased several new types of OLED screens at the CES 2024 expo, and they include brighter TV and monitor screens, thinner laptop screens, dual-foldable screens for phones, curved and rollable screens for cars, and even OLED touchscreens for wireless earbuds.

Samsung's OLED touchscreen could come to future Galaxy Buds

Samsung Display showcased a prototype of a small and circular OLED panel that could fit inside a charging case of wireless earbuds. Called Earbuds OLED Case, the circular OLED panel on the top can display things like the battery level of the earbuds and the case, audio modes, and the status of ANC. More things can be adjusted right from the case rather than opening up the earbuds app on a paired device. Users can also switch to another device right from the display on the earbuds case. The case even features watch faces from the Galaxy Watch lineup of smartwatches.

Currently, advanced features and settings of wireless earbuds can only be done using a smartphone app, which means a user needs to have a smartphone. However, when earbuds start using such cases, they can be useful with a lot more products, including laptops, TVs, and more. Users can control music playback, change settings, check time, and more.

Watch our hands-on video of the amazing Earbuds OLED Case below.

Author's Note: This is a really interesting and practical technology that Samsung has showcased. A similar touchscreen case is already available on wireless earbuds from JBL, which is owned by HARMAN Group, a Samsung Electronics subsidiary. We fully expect Samsung to bring a similar touchscreen case to Galaxy Buds models in the future. However, we can't tell how far away that future is. Yes, there is a chance of software dependency and that software that handles a touchscreen case getting phased out, but these wireless earbuds can only be used for 4-5 years before they need battery replacement, and by that time, people stop using them. So, software dependency won't be an issue by then.
