So far, Samsung has rolled out the October 2022 security patch for a handful of high-end devices, but the company is now turning its attention toward the low-cost market. It's now seeding the October update for the Galaxy A02 in many regions.
Interestingly, the first Galaxy A02 variant to get the October 2022 security update is the one that carries model number SM-A022M. Meanwhile, the international Galaxy A02 (SM-A022F) hasn't received the update yet, but it probably won't fall too far behind.
The update carries firmware version A022MXXS3BVI1 and consists only of the latest security patch. It's available for the Galaxy A02 in Argentina, Paraguay, Brazil, Uruguay, Peru, Chile, Panama, Dominican Republic, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Guatemala, and Colombia.
Coincidentally, Samsung revealed the changelog for the October 2022 security patch moments ago. The update addresses 32 issues found in Google's Android OS and patches 18 security flaws in Samsung's software. Some vulnerabilities are limited to certain devices or hardware configurations and don't concern the Galaxy A02. For example, the October 2022 security patch addresses security flaws for the Snapdragon 855+ and Snapdragon 865 chipsets, but the Galaxy A02 is powered by the MediaTek MT6739W SoC.
You can download the new October 2022 update where available for the Galaxy A02 by tapping the notification when it arrives or by opening the Settings app on the phone, navigating to “Software update,” and tapping “Download and install.” Alternatively, Galaxy A02 users can refer to the firmware section of our website and download the official firmware files for manual installation using a PC.
