Samsung has officially announced its latest low-cost phone, the Galaxy A06, without too much fanfare. Samsung took the veil off its budget device in Vietnam, where the Galaxy A06 will go on sale next week.
Much to our expectations, given all the previous leaks, the Galaxy A06 isn't all that different from its predecessor. The Galaxy A06 has the same MediaTek Helio G85 chip as the A05, a 50MP primary camera, and it is powered by a 5,000mAh battery with 25W charging.
Like the 2023 model, the new phone pairs its MediaTek chip with 4GB or 6GB of RAM and 64GB or 128GB of storage.
Samsung says the Galaxy A06 ships with the latest version of Android OS, which should be Android 14. Other specs include 128GB of storage and a side-mounted fingerprint scanner.
New design, better display, and a free wall charger
The two main upgrades introduced by the Galaxy A06 over the A05 are a new design with the Key Island frame style and an upgraded display.
The panel retains the 6.7-inch size. However, Samsung says it now supports a refresh rate of 90Hz, up from 60Hz.
Lastly, it's worth noting that early buyers who order the Galaxy A06 in Vietnam between August 22 and September 30 will receive a 25W wall charger for free.
As for pricing, buyers in Vietnam are looking at a VND 3,190,000 ($127) price for the 4GB+64GB model and VND 3,790,000 ($151) for the 6GB+128GB variant.
As yet, there's no mention of when the Galaxy A06 might be released in other markets. Likewise, Samsung hasn't used the words “AI” or “Circle to Search” once in its announcement, so expect the Galaxy A06 to lack both. Samsung recently announced Circle to Search for Galaxy A phones, but the feature is limited to a few devices, starting with the Galaxy A34 and up.
