The Galaxy A42 5G, the not-compact phone that Samsung launched in its compact Galaxy A4x lineup way back in 2020, is getting the Android 13 and One UI 5.0 update today. Samsung has kicked off the rollout of the update in its home country of South Korea on all major carriers and will probably release the update in more markets in the coming days.
The firmware version that accompanies the Galaxy A42 5G Android 13 update in Korea is A426NKSU2DVK2. The update includes the November 2022 security patch, which is the latest available for Galaxy devices at the time of this writing (although the December patch shouldn't be too far off).
The Galaxy A42 5G joins more than 40 Galaxy devices to get the Android 13 One UI 5.0 update well before 2023, meaning Samsung is on track to finish the rollout for all devices before next year. As we've pointed out before, though, it's possible not countries and carriers will have released the update before 2023, which is a problem we hope Samsung will address quickly.
Korean Galaxy A42 5G owners can download the update from the phone's Settings » Software update menu by tapping the Download and install button in there if they want to do things the standard way (i.e. downloading the update to the phone over the air). Alternatively, the upgrade can be performed using a Windows PC and Samsung's Odin tool using the firmware files available in our archives.
