The Galaxy A51 is not just one of the best Samsung phones it's also one of the company's most successful devices. It attracted millions of customers across the globe for its brilliant mix of specs and features at a competitive price in the mid-range segment.
That being said, it has been almost two years since this handset was released. So it was time for Samsung to adjust its software support for the Galaxy A51. Those who own the device won't be happy to find out that the Galaxy A51 will only get two updates per year from now on.
Galaxy A51 has been demoted to the bi-annual cycle
The Galaxy A51 is on the list of Samsung devices that get three Android OS upgrades. It's eligible for the Android 12 One UI 4.0 update. Samsung is expected to release One UI 4.0 for the device in the coming weeks.
Samsung also promises to provide smartphones with four years of security updates. These updates are released on the monthly, quarterly and bi-annual cycle for devices. The Galaxy A51 was previously on the quarterly schedule. That meant it would get a new security update once every three months.
The Galaxy A51 has already received its February 2022 security update and the device has now been demoted to the bi-annual cycle. Samsung will only release two security updates per year for the Galaxy A51 going forward. It's pertinent to note that the Galaxy A51 5G still remains on the quarterly cycle.
Samsung never provides any reason for demoting the devices so we don't know what exactly has caused the company to make this decision. All Galaxy A51 owners can do right now is accept the new normal.
