The April security update has been rolling out to both flagship and mid-range Galaxy smartphones over the last few days. The Galaxy S23, Galaxy A52, Galaxy Z Fold 4 and more have received the update. And now, it is rolling out for the Galaxy A53 5G, Samsung's best mid-range smartphone from last year and the predecessor to this year's disappointing Galaxy A54 5G.
Puerto Rican users get the April security patch with One UI 5.1
The Galaxy A53 5G's April update has made its debut in the US region and is available for unlocked units at the moment. Availability is limited right now – the update is out only in Puerto Rico at the time of this writing. And it could be a while before it arrives on devices in mainland USA, as they only recently received an update with last month's security patch.
For those in Puerto Rico, the April update also includes an upgrade to One UI 5.1 (devices in the mainland got One UI 5.1 a month or so ago), so expect a hefty download size. One UI 5.1 brings quite a few enhancements to Galaxy smartphones, and you can check out our video below for a detailed rundown of everything One UI 5.1 has to offer. The April 2023 security patch itself is important, too, as it fixes some serious security vulnerabilities.
To download the new update (firmware version A536U1UEU4CWC4) on your Galaxy A53 5G, open the Settings app, select Software update, and hit the Download and install option. Our firmware archive, as usual, stands ready to serve and is where you can download the latest firmware if you want to update your phone using a Windows PC.
