A few weeks ago, Samsung released the Android 13-based One UI 5.0 update to the Galaxy A53 5G in international markets. The update was also released to the US carrier-locked version of the phone on some carrier networks. However, it is still missing on some networks. Today, those units are getting a new software update, but you shouldn't get your hopes high as it doesn't bring Android 13 to the device.
The latest software update for the Galaxy A53 5G's carrier-locked version comes with firmware A536USQS4AVL1. The update is rolling out in the US on Dish's network, and we expect it to be available on other carrier networks shortly. It brings the December 2022 security patch that aims to fix close to 100 security vulnerabilities and improve the security of the device. It could also contain general bug fixes and stability improvements.
If you have the carrier-locked version of the Galaxy A53 5G in the US that hasn't received Android 13 yet, you can check for the new update on your device by heading to Settings » Software update and tapping Download and install. You can also choose to download the new firmware file from our firmware database and flash it manually.
Samsung launched the Galaxy A53 5G alongside the Galaxy A33 5G and the Galaxy A73 5G earlier this year with Android 12 onboard. All three phones came with a promise of four major Android OS updates and have already received the Android 13 update in most international markets. We expect all the US versions of the Galaxy A53 5G to get the Android 13 update within a matter of weeks.
