The Galaxy Buds Pro are Samsung's best true wireless earbuds yet. The earbuds offer excellent audio quality, a beautiful design, and features like ANC and spatial audio. However, there is still room for improvement, and here are a few ways Samsung could improve the successors to the Galaxy Buds Pro.
Bring back the wingtips from the original Galaxy Buds
The Galaxy Buds Pro are an improvement over the Galaxy Buds and the Galaxy Buds+ in various ways, but not in terms of fit. The original Galaxy Buds are among the best-fitting truly wireless earbuds we've ever used, and that's because of their wingtips. Samsung introduced a more modern design with the Galaxy Buds Pro but removed the wingtips.
While the Galaxy Buds Pro's design isn't bad by any means, the Galaxy Buds and the Galaxy Buds+ fit relatively securely in the ears. They don't fall out even during intense workouts. If there is one design change that Samsung wants to bring with the Galaxy Buds Pro 2, it should be the addition of wingtips.
Make Galaxy Buds Pro 2 compatible with Bluetooth LE Audio, LDAC
Samsung supports SBC, AAC, and SSC (Samsung Scalable Codec) Bluetooth audio codecs on all its TWS earphones. However, to better match the ‘Pro' branding of its next flagship wireless earbuds, Samsung should use a Bluetooth 5.2 chip that supports LE Audio and LC3 codecs.
This new codec is designed by the Bluetooth SIG and was unveiled during CES 2020. It claims to offer better audio quality at the same bandwidth as SBC. Most future Android smartphones will feature Bluetooth 5.2 with LE Audio and LC3 codec support, and Samsung should support the same.
Some rival wireless earbuds like OnePlus Buds Pro and Sony WF-1000XM4 feature higher quality Bluetooth codecs such as LDAC and LHDC. Qualcomm recently announced its aptX Lossless codec that is designed to deliver CD-quality lossless audio (16-bit 44.1kHz) at a maximum transfer rate of around 1Mbps. Samsung should bring any of these lossless-grade Bluetooth codecs with its next Galaxy Buds Pro earbuds.
Offer graphic equalizer settings
Samsung's Galaxy Wearable app offers multiple pre-loaded equalizer settings, but there is no option to allow users to manually tune audio output via a graphic equalizer. We want to see the company bring support for a graphic equalizer with the Galaxy Buds Pro 2.
Improve the battery life
Samsung claims that the Galaxy Buds Pro can last up to 5 hours of music playback with ANC turned on and up to 8 hours. While that's on par with most other TWS earbuds in the market, it is nowhere close to the Galaxy Buds+ that lasted nearly 11 hours on a single charge. With its next flagship wireless earbuds, Samsung needs to up its battery life game once again.
Even if Samsung can deliver two out of these four features, the Galaxy Buds Pro 2 could be pretty impressive. We don't know when Samsung will unveil its next flagship TWS earphones, but if we had to guess, the company could unveil them by the second half of 2022.
