The Galaxy Buds Pro, which were unveiled earlier today alongside the Galaxy S21, are an improvement over last year’s Galaxy Buds+. While the Galaxy Buds+ were a great pair of truly wireless earphones for the price, they lacked a few features that some people want from their wireless earbuds. With the Galaxy Buds Pro, Samsung has managed to bring those missing features and made near-perfect truly wireless earphones. Let us compare the Galaxy Buds+ and the Galaxy Buds Pro to find out how they are different and if spending more is worth it.
Galaxy Buds Pro vs Galaxy Buds+: Audio and call quality
Both earphones use a Bluetooth 5.0 chip with support for AAC, SBC, and SSC (Samsung Scalable Codec). They even feature the same dual-driver setup featuring 11mm woofers and 6.5mm tweeters, and they are tuned by AKG. However, Samsung has made some improvements to the audio tuning with the Galaxy Buds Pro. The newer earphones also feature active noise cancellation (ANC) so that you can further drown out unwanted noise while you are listening to music or watching videos. The South Korean firm claims that it can remove up to 99% of unwanted background noise with the Galaxy Buds Pro.
The Galaxy Buds+ and the Galaxy Buds Pro have three microphones on each side, which means they are great in picking up your voice during calls. They even have the Ambient Mode feature that lets in outside audio while you are talking to someone beside you or want to hear the traffic while taking a walk in the city. However, with the ANC mode turned on, the Galaxy Buds Pro can sound a bit better during voice calls, and they can automatically switch between ANC and Ambient modes.
Galaxy Buds Pro vs Galaxy Buds+: Additional features
The Galaxy Buds Pro and the Galaxy Buds+ feature touch controls and are compatible with the Galaxy Wearable app on Android and iOS. Their touch controls can be customized, and the equalizer settings can be changed using the smartphone companion app. They also have the Swift Pair feature for seamless pairing with PCs running Windows 10. However, only the Galaxy Buds Pro feature Dolby’s 360-degree audio, which offers a more immersive audio experience while watching videos on Galaxy smartphones or tablets.
The new truly wireless earphones from Samsung also feature Game Mode and Auto Switch, something that is missing on the Galaxy Buds+. When you lose the Galaxy Buds Pro, you can find them using the SmartThings Find feature. This feature is missing on the Galaxy Buds+ as well. However, the Galaxy Buds+ have the Double Tap Earbud Edge feature for further touch control customization. The Galaxy Buds+ feature an IPX2 rating for sweat resistance during workouts, but the Galaxy Buds Pro come with an IPX7 rating, which means that you can even submerge them in water.
Galaxy Buds Pro vs Galaxy Buds+: Battery life and charging
The Galaxy Buds+ can last up to 11 hours on a single charge, and the charging case provides an additional 11 hours worth of charge. The Galaxy Buds Pro can last up to 8 hours on a single charge, but the case offers up to 20 hours worth of additional battery juice. With the ANC mode turned on, the Galaxy Buds Pro can last up to 5 hours on a single charge, and the charging case offers 13 hours of additional playback time. The Galaxy Buds Pro last longer than the Galaxy Buds+ with the charging case, but the Galaxy Buds+ last longer on a single charge. It depends on how you use your wireless earphones to pick a winner in this category.
Galaxy Buds Pro vs Galaxy Buds+: Price
The Galaxy Buds Pro cost $199, while the Galaxy Buds+ cost $129. If you don’t value ANC, you can very well pick up the Galaxy Buds+, but you would also be missing out on additional features such as SmartThings Find, Game Mode, Auto Switch, and 360-degree audio.
The Galaxy Buds Pro are costly, but they also offer a lot of additional features over the Galaxy Buds+. They also feature improved audio quality and active noise cancellation, something that people want from their truly wireless earphones if they are looking for a premium device.
