The Galaxy Z Fold 2 is getting the December 2023 update, and the first region to receive the new firmware appears to be the USA.
The good news is that the December 2023 security patch is rolling out for both the carrier and unlocked Galaxy Z Fold 2 variants at the same time. Users can identify the update by firmware version F916U(1)SQS5KWK1.
No One UI 6.0 for the Galaxy Z Fold 2
The firmware number confirms that the package includes only the newer security patch and no new UI features or changes. Samsung no longer supports the Galaxy Z Fold 2 with Android updates, and the foldable phone is not eligible for the recent One UI 6.0 release.
As for the December 2023 security patch, Samsung revealed last week that it contains a total of 75 fixes for known vulnerabilities, 54 of which concern Google's software.
If you want to update the Galaxy Z Fold 2 in the USA, you can open the Settings app on the phone, access “Software update,” and tap “Download and install.” For manual installation using a PC, you can download the official firmware files from our website.
If you want to experience One UI 6.0 and you're looking for a hardware upgrade, you might want to consider trading up. As of this writing, Samsung is giving you an $800 discount on the Galaxy Z Fold 5 if you trade the Z Fold 2, and you can benefit from a free memory upgrade to the 512GB variant.
