Galaxy Note 20 may offer much better fingerprint tech than Galaxy S20

Samsung's Galaxy Note 20 series may be the first smartphone range capable of reading two fingerprints simultaneously, according to a known industry insider. The Korean manufacturer is said to be on the verge of commercializing 3D Sonic Max, the latest version of Qualcomm's in-display biometric reader spanning an area 17 times bigger compared to the 3D Sonic Sensor first implemented into the Galaxy S10 family. This particular technology was already expected to feature in the Galaxy S20, though that didn't come to pass.

However, Samsung may finally be ready to commercialize 3D Sonic Max with the Galaxy Note 20 line, as claimed by DSCC CEO Ross Young, a source of several recent reports about the upcoming phablet. The industry analyst revealed the new information in this week's Q&A session that can be viewed below.

Galaxy Note 20 still on course for a summer 2020 release

By covering a larger display area, 3D Sonic Max should ensure the Galaxy Note 20 offers a biometric authentication solution that's both more secure and convenient to use. Other than that, Young reiterated his recent claims about the Galaxy Note 20+ utilizing an LTPO backplane, consequently boasting a much more efficient and official support for variable refresh rates than what the Galaxy S20 series offered.

The Galaxy Note 20 and Galaxy Note 20+ remain on course to launch this summer, with recent reports pointing to an August announcement. Their official unveil may even happen alongside the Galaxy Fold 2's debut, though Samsung itself is still said to be deciding on how exactly it wants to play that out.
